Dear Sisters and Brothers,
As you know, on July 14, 2020, the Local 1503 bargaining committee and District Council 37 reached tentative agreement with the Metropolitan Museum of Art regarding our pay and benefits going forward in the context of COVID-19-related changes to operations. The agreement is referred to as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The negotiations were tough, but we managed to save jobs and benefits—and avoided layoffs. Although painful, we were able to limit the number of furloughs. Those furloughed will receive full Met medical and DC37 Health and Security benefits with the possibility to be recalled within 6 months.
Those of retirement age will be eligible for additional incentive pay through the Voluntary Retirement Plan (VRP). The number of members taking the VRP could reduce the number to be furloughed.
The agreement must be ratified by the membership to take effect. The Executive Board approved these terms as the best we could obtain in unprecedented circumstances with the goal of doing the greatest good for the largest number of members. We encourage everyone to vote in favor of this agreement.
You will receive an email with a link to vote online. Voting begins Sunday and ends Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 5:00 PM.
The results will be posted at Local1503.org and 1503 social media by noon, Thursday, July 23.
