Important Changes to Working Conditions and Some Schedules
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Your Local 1503 Executive Board would like to give you, our fellow members a “heads-up” about work schedule changes on the horizon. These changes are prompted by the global pandemic we are experiencing and the museum’s new days and hours of operation. While some schedules may be staggered to maintain proper social distancing, some may be quite different. The most significant change will be in the security department. Some schedule changes will be difficult but the goal is to keep local 1503 working.
The museum will be open Thursdays through Mondays, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Thursday and Friday hours will be noon to 7:00 pm. Saturday through Monday hours will be 10:00 am to 5:30 PM.
- No 3rd platoon for now
All security staff will be either first or second platoon, work five days with two consecutive days off. This last week Security Management, in order by seniority, presented new work schedules for Supervisors and Special Officers to choose from. - What to expect
All members will be contacted by seniority and given options of platoons, days and times to choose from
First platoon will work from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm every day.
Second platoon working Thursdays and Fridays will work from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm. The rest of the week will be 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. - Difficult decisions are coming…
Your local Executive board and DC37 are working hard on your behalf. These past months we were able to secure all jobs, benefits and everyone stayed on full paid status whether you worked or not with no layoffs. We are continuing with that same objective in mind. Bargaining with the Met is still ongoing but conversation about furloughs were discussed. Nothing is off the table. As I mentioned before ALL locals within the cultural institutions are feeling the pinch because of the financial difficulties New York City is experiencing because of Covid-19. All unions are facing layoffs, furloughs or both. We as a local have to be ready but rest assured our goal is to protect seniority, all benefits and our pay with NO LAYOFFS. Seniority will be enforced in all things. As we prepare to ratify this latest MOU more details will be provided along with a member zoom meeting.
Your health, safety and working conditions is our first priority.
Stay tuned and stay healthy!
