Tuition Reimbursement

Effective, January 1, 2011, the District Council 37 Education Fund will only reimburse for job-related Civil Service and Continuing Education courses or for undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate courses offered by U.S. affiliated educationally accredited institutions and programs as specified in the U.S. Department of Education Database of Accredited Post-secondary Institutions and Programs (http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/). The Fund will also reimburse for conferences or test preparation courses that are taken to pass a test for professional license or certification or for New York State registration (i.e. Social Workers, Engineers, Architects) as a condition of employment. Please note: Examination and Certification fees are not reimbursable.

To be eligible, a member must be a full-time per annum employee in a title covered by Fund training agreements. Part-time employees include some covered titles of the Department of Education and College Assistants who work a minimum of 17 ½ hours per week or 70 hours per month are covered.

DC 37 Education Fund Classes

Eligibility

Members of collective bargaining units represented by DC 37 (except Local 371, 95, 107, 205, 215, 253, 389) are eligible for Education Fund classes and programs. Terms for Education Fund classes begin in September, January and April respectively. For more information on eligibility click here or call (212) 815 -1700.

DC 37 Scholarships

Please include all items requested in the Application Checklist. Late submissions will not be considered. Scholarship recipients will be notified via email no later than June 20th, 2022. For additional information, please email us at scholarships@dc37.net, or call (212) 815-1700.

Education Scholarships for Members’ Children and Grandchildren

The DC 37 Education Committee offers a number of scholarships for dependent children and grandchildren of eligible DC 37 members and retirees. These scholarships are for applicants who are graduating high school seniors who will be entering their first year of college or college students entering their first or second year of undergraduate study and each scholarship award is $1,000. The Lillian Roberts Scholarship and the Dwayne Dugger Memorial Scholarship are the only scholarships available to active members and each are awarded in the amount of $2,000. No applicant may receive more than one Education Committee scholarship.

The following scholarships are available:

Memorial Scholarship

The Memorial Scholarship honors past union leaders who have helped build DC 37. This scholarship is for high school seniors only.

DC 37 Education Committee Scholarship

The applicant must currently be enrolled in the 1st or 2nd year of a 2-year or 4-year accredited college, university, technical or trade school. High school seniors are not eligible for this award.

Overcoming Obstacles Scholarship

The applicant who is a high school senior or a student enrolled in their 1st or 2nd year of college, university, technical or trade school, overcoming a physical or learning disability. The applicant must submit proof of disability.

Evelyn Gaskin Memorial Scholarship

The applicant must be pursuing a career in education. Recipient will be required to submit proof of enrollment in an Education degree program and must be currently enrolled in their 1st or 2nd year of a 2-year or 4-year college or university. High school seniors are not eligible for this award.

Education Scholarships for Active Members

Lillian Roberts Scholarship for Continuing Education

The applicant must be an active member of DC 37 pursuing an undergraduate degree in a 2-year or 4-year college or university. This scholarship is for active members only.

The Dwayne Dugger Memorial Scholarship

The applicant must be an active member of DC 37 pursuing a graduate degree at 4-year College or University. This scholarship is for active members only.

All applicants will be required to submit a completed application package and include all required documentation.
